IBM Disk Operating System (DOS) Version 4.00 and
Windows Kit for the IBM Personal System/2 (PS/2)(R)
IBM Disk Operating System (DOS) Version 4.00 and Windows Kit for the IBM
Personal System/2 consists of a set of software tools which, when installed
on a hardfile PS/2 Model 25, 30, 50 or 60, provide an easy-to-learn,
easy-to-use environment based on Microsoft Windows/286(1). A starter set
of applications includes a word processor with spell checker and equation
editor which allow the preparation of composite documents. These documents
may include multi-font text, graphs, pictures, and mathematical
expressions. This product is oriented toward first-time computer users in
the higher education and business environments.

function to aid the user in editing and formatting (Palantir Spell, IBM
Formula, and IBM Grapher).
o The enhanced performance, usability, and new function invite use of this
value-added system by users in higher education, business, and the home.
o IBM DOS Version 4.00 and Windows Kit for PS/2 supports the latest
windows applications (Windows/286 versus Windows 1.04) and the latest
PS/2 single-tasking operating system (DOS Version 4.00 versus DOS
Version 3.30) which are packaged with it for easy installation prior to
load of the tutorial and new function.
o An enhanced Installation and User's Guide is included to supplement the
installation diskette instructions and to provide a comprehensive guide
to the practical use of Windows/286.
DESCRIPTION
IBM DOS Version 4.00 and Windows Kit for PS/2 is a follow-on to the IBM
Personal System/2 Collegiate Kit. Full Windows/286 function will be
provided within IBM DOS Version 4.00 and Windows Kit for PS/2 versus a
subset of Windows 1.04. DOS Version 4.00 will be provided for separate
installation of its entire command set versus a subset of DOS Version 3.30.
IBM DOS Version 4.00 and Windows Kit for PS/2 is comprised of:
o DOS Version 4.00

o Installation Guide
o Installation Program
o Online Tutorial (Hardfile)
o Palantir Spell
o IBM Formula (Equation Editor)
o IBM Grapher
The online tutorial provides instructions for the use and control of the
Windows screens in which the applications WRITE, PAINT, and CARDFILE
appear. These functions allow the user to write, illustrate, and print a
composite document. A paper for college-level coursework is used as an
example. Instruction on the MS-DOS Executive application is provided for
the issuing of DOS Version 4.00 commands from Windows. It also offers an
introduction to the use of the two-button mouse.
Added to the tutorial is instruction on Palantir Spell (a Spellchecker),
IBM Formula (an equation editor), and IBM Grapher (an XY plotter).
Installation and use of printers are included in the tutorial.
An Installation and User's Guide explains how to set up the system by
leading the user through the installation of DOS Version 4.00, Windows/286,
and the diskettes containing the tutorial and the new function.

Product Positioning
IBM DOS Version 4.00 and Windows Kit for PS/2 should be marketed to run on
PS/2 Models 25, 30 or 50 and 60 with a hardfile. The objective is to
enhance the marketability of PS/2 Model 25 by supporting its new hardfile
feature, and to support PS/2 Model 30 with a hardfile, and PS/2 Model 50
and 60. It satisfies the education-user requirement of an easily learned
set of Microsoft Windows/286 applications that serve as a total solution to
write, illustrate, and print a college-level paper for coursework.

Security, Auditability, and Control
End-user management is responsible for evaluation, selection, and
implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and
appropriate controls in application systems and communication facilities.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Licensing: IBM DOS Version 4.00 and Windows Kit for PS/2 are licensed
under the terms and conditions of the IBM Program License Agreement
(Z125-3301-02). A copy is packaged and shipped with each program and is
visible to the customer before the package is opened. The customer is
advised that opening the package indicates acceptance of these terms and
conditions. No signature is required.
Microsoft Windows is licensed under the terms and conditions of the
Microsoft License Agreement. A copy of the agreement is included in the
program package. Programs in this announcement are available from IBM as
distributed by the program supplier. The terms and conditions of the
supplier apply.
Limited Warranty:

Programs: Yes. Media: Three months.
MicroSoft Windows/286: Limited warranty, not warranted by IBM. Warranty
if any, is provided by the program supplier. Address any problems on
warranty coverage to the program supplier.
Program Services:
MicroSoft Windows/286: Vendor services and usage support is available from
the vendor as described on the program package in the Microsoft License
Agreement.
IBM Disk Operating System Version 4.0: Central Service, including the IBM
Support Center, will be available until August 31, 1989. The statement of
service included in the program package describes the service.
Instructions for reporting problems are included in the program
publications. IBM does not guarantee service results or represent or
warrant that all errors or program defects will be corrected.
The Service Coordinator will be designated at the time the program license
is acquired. The Service Coordinator may be a Dealer, Industry Remarketer,
or a customer representative depending on the type of contract and where
the program license is acquired. The Dealer or Industry Remarketer will be
the Service Coordinator for its end-users unless the applicable PLA program
is delivered to an end-user pursuant to volume purchase agreement or
fulfillment contract and the end-user has designated one of their own
representatives to be the Service Coordinator.
The Service Coordinator is responsible for assisting the customer with:
o Determining if a problem was caused by hardware or software.
o Identifying which software being used is causing the problem.
o Reporting suspected defects to IBM.
o Applying preventive and corrective service.
o Submitting data to IBM for analysis.
o Performing other activities recommended by IBM support organizations to
define and/or resolve the problem.
